A crash critically injured a pedestrian in Hamilton, closing part of State Highway 1C for “several hours”.

Emergency services were called to Frankton after a crash on the highway, also known as Lincoln Street, about 9.50am on Sunday, police said.

It involved a car and pedestrian, “who suffered critical injuries”, a statement said.

A white van towing a load of firewood was inside the cordoned-off scene on Sunday morning. It was in the southbound lane of Lincoln St just before the entrance to the refuse centre.

At 12pm the Serious Crash Unit was examining the scene, putting out markers and taking photos. What appeared to be clothing was on the road by the front wheel of the van.

Lincoln Street was shut between the Rifle Range Road/Norton Road roundabout and Edgar Street while emergency services worked.

The Serious Crash Unit examined the scene, which is near the transfer station.
