SkyCity Auckland fire: Praise and prayers for firefighters tirelessly battling blaze
Wednesday, 23 October 2019
Aucklanders were praising the efforts of the fire crews who worked through the night to stop the SkyCity Auckland Convention Centre fire from spreading.
'Those fire fighters are tremendous what a rough night for them,' one person wrote on Twitter.
Fire crews were using aerial units - or snorkels, as they're known - to douse the flames from above. They were now entering their 20th hour after it broke out around 1.10pm on Tuesday afternoon.
Send your pictures and videos of the fire to newstips@stuff.co.nz.

One person shared a video of the blaze on Twitter and said they were praying for the firefighters.
'It looks like the fire is out until you watch a moment; flames still licking up at the bottom right of screen. It's just going deeper. Prayers for the firefighters.'
The fire started in a corner of the building's roof and quickly spread across much of the seventh floor. It continued to burn through the night.
Flames and thick clouds of smoke continue to billow from the roof of the under-construction SkyCity convention centre.
