What’s the story, Oasis? New Zealand fans could miss out on reunion tour
Friday, 27 September 2024
New Zealand Oasis fans may have to travel to Australia if they want to catch the band’s 2025 reunion tour.
According to music and pop culture site NME, the Oasis Live ‘25 tour is heading to the US, Canada, Asia, South America and Australia - but not New Zealand.
Fifteen years after they split up, the British band announced they were going to reunite for a series of shows next year. There are nearly 20 shows scheduled in the UK and Ireland next July and August, but the global tour is yet to be confirmed.
However, NME reports the following cities will host the band led by brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher: Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Boston, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne, Sydney, Sao Paulo, Santiago and Buenos Aires.
That means Kiwi fans will have to travel to Melbourne or Sydney as their closest options to see the gig.
Tickets to the comeback tour in the UK sold out fast. More than 1 million tickets went on sale at the beginning of September, with prices starting at about NZ$140 and rising to more than NZ$1000 for a package that includes a pre-show party and merchandise. Within hours, tickets were offered on resale websites for as much as NZ$12,000.
The band split up in 2009 in acrimonious circumstances just hours before they were set to play a show in Paris.
