Actor Kevin Spacey has responded to reports he is “homeless”, saying he is not “homeless in the colloquial sense“.

Spacey’s career came crashing down after several sexual assault allegations in 2017, and he told the UK’s Daily Telegraph he has struggled with legal costs.

“I’m living in hotels, I’m living in Airbnbs. I’m going where the work is. I literally have no home, that’s what I’m attempting to explain,” he told the Telegraph.

The headline for that story featured the word “homeless” and was carried around the world.

Spacey took to Instagram to correct the record and thank those who had offered support.

“To the thousands of people who have reached out over the past few days offering me a place to stay, or have just asked if I'm OK, let me first say that I am truly touched by your generosity,” he said.

The former House of Cards star praised the work of the Telegraph journalist and said he had been “undermined” by the headline writer.

Spacey said that his current transient lifestyle mirrored that of his life as a young actor and said, while his heart goes out to those who are truly homeless, 'I am not one of them, nor was I attempting to say that I was.“

Spacey has denied the allegations against him. In 2022, a jury in New York concluded he did not sexually assault actor Anthony Rapp in the early 1980s.

The following year, a UK court found Spacey not guilty of nine charges of sexual assault from four complainants.

He told the Telegraph that he wanted to return to high profile gigs.

“We are in touch with some extremely powerful people who want to put me back to work,” Spacey said.

“And that will happen in its right time.”
