Motorcycle near miss with an unexpected outcome
Wednesday, 23 October 2019
Many of these sorts of videos end in carnage and rage, so it is nice to see one that doesn't.
In this video posted to YouTube a few years ago by user Motorbikes and Memes we see a speeding biker having a near miss with an inattentive motorist in Andover, Minnesota in the USA.
The motorist in the SUV doesn't see the speeding biker and pulls out from a side street, luckily the biker is quick enough to react in time and narrowly miss slamming into the side of the SUV.
What happens next isn't what you expect from one of these videos and we don't think we would be out of line saying 'particularly in America' either.

People from Minnesota are famous for being nice. In fact, there is even a term for it: 'Minnesota nice'.
Wikipedia even has a definition of it: The stereotypical behaviour of people from Minnesota to be courteous, reserved, and mild-mannered, is popularly known as Minnesota nice. The cultural characteristics of 'Minnesota nice' include polite friendliness, an aversion to open confrontation, a tendency toward understatement, a disinclination to make a direct fuss or stand out, apparent emotional restraint, and self-deprecation.
And that is exactly what happens here. After the near miss, both stop, turn around and… apologise to each other.
The shaken-up motorist (with the most awesome Ned Flanders moustache you will ever see in real life) admits he didn't see the biker and the biker admits he was speeding. Both apologise profusely and go on their separate ways.
So an unusually happy ending for one of these videos then.
Although the biker does possibly reveal the secret behind ability of Minnesotans to be so nice to each other once he is on his way again, venting with an inarticulate scream and some NSFW language - so stop the video after they part ways if you don't want to hear that. It does seem quite cathartic for him though…
