General Motors Specialty Vehicles launches with Silverado

Tuesday, 10 November 2020

General Motors Specialty Vehicles has launched with the new Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) has officially launched with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in Australia and New Zealand.

The 1500 has been converted to right-hand drive by Walkinshaw Automotive Group as the first entry in the GMSV line-up, with the Silverado 2500 and long-awaited C8 Chevrolet Corvette to follow.

North American full-size trucks are redefining the Ute market in Australia and New Zealand, and GMSV will offer some of America’s most successful and highest selling vehicles in the segment, said Joanne Stogiannis, Director of GMSV.

The new Silverado 1500 will usher in the new GMSV brand.

“We have launched with over fifty GM Specialty Vehicles dealers and look forward to adding more. Our GMSV dealers are now open for business in Australia and New Zealand.”

“We can’t wait to see the first Silverados being driven out of our GMSV showrooms,” she added.

The Silverado 1500 is about as American as it gets, sporting a 6.2-litre V8, bravely named ‘EcoTec’, paired with a ten-speed automatic. It sends 313kW and 624Nm to all four wheels, allowing a maximum towing capacity of 4.5 tonnes.

An in-vehicle trailering app should help to navigate with a full load while heated and ventilated seats, best-in-class head and leg room and a seven-speaker Bose system keeps the cabin comfy. There’s also an ‘Advanced Towing Package’ with hitch guidance, hitch view, integrated brake controller and trailer theft alert.

There wasn’t any word on Chevy’s slick new Multi-Flex Tailgate, though. That might be an update for next year.

Tech includes adaptive cruise control with lane departure warning and change assist, digital displays worth 31 total inches, a rearview camera and adaptive high beams. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are both standard.

Pricing and final specifications are yet to be announced but those interested can use the new ‘Find a Dealer’ tool on the GMSV website to find their nearest dealer and start up discussions.
