An aerial imagery company has taken a series of pictures of growing Auckland suburbs which illustrate just how fast the city is expanding.
Nearmap, took yearly photographs of the Auckland suburbs of Millwater, Orewa, Glen Innes, Long Bay, Kumeu, Whenuapai and Takanini, starting in 2017.
The company also took images of Marshland in Christchurch and Poraiti in Napier.
Shane Preston, executive vice president at Nearmap said that as New Zealand experienced steady population growth, the view from the sky offered a fresh perspective of its impact.

'For example, we can see a number of localities north of Auckland's CBD, such as Orewa or Millwater, where a whole neighbourhood has filled in empty spaces.
'In cities such as Auckland that is seeing ongoing growth, keeping track of what's happening on the ground with current imagery is essential to strategically plan new urban developments,' Preston said.
Senior Research Analyst for Core Logic, Kelvin Davidson said, the rapid growth in Auckland could be linked to the 'huge rise' in house prices in the city during the last few years.
'There's a strong demand for more homes in Auckland as housing is expensive and the population is growing,' Davidson said.
