Body of man recovered north of Muriwai Beach in Auckland

The body of a man has been recovered from Muriwai Beach in West Auckland.

A police spokesman said the discovery was reported to police around 7am on Tuesday and the body had now been removed from the beach.

'Formal identification processes are still to be carried out, however police believe it is the man we have been searching for in recent days.

'Police are working to support the family of the missing man through this tragic event.'

On Sunday, police were notified of a body in the water, in an area near the Gannet Colony known as the Temple.

The spokesman said police were unable to comment further at this time.

The matter will be referred to the Coroner.
