Person critical after workplace 'shock' at Countdown in Auckland CBD

A person has been badly hurt in a workplace incident in Auckland CBD.

Two fire trucks and two ambulance crews were at the scene at Countdown on Quay St .

St John ambulance staff are taking one person, who is in a critical condition, to Auckland City Hospital.

A contractor at the scene said a man who was working at a construction site had 'got a shock'.

Scaffolding can be seen inside the building and a worker from the construction site who had finished for the day said a man had been injured and staff had been told 'not to go up there'.

Emergency services were called about 3.15pm.

A Stuff reporter at the scene said emergency services left the scene about 4pm.

A police officer said there had been a 'workplace accident'.

Staff from Green Way and Countdown at the scene declined to comment. 

A Countdown spokeswoman also refused to comment.

A WorkSafe spokesperson confirmed it was notified of the incident and is making inquiries.

The incident was the second workplace accident in Auckland on Tuesday.

Earlier, a person died at a quarry in Drury.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle went to that incident after being called to a motor vehicle accident at the site.

A Worksafe spokeswoman said it had been notified of a fatality in Drury, involving vehicles.

'We are making initial inquiries to establish next steps.'
