Powerball jackpots to biggest prize in Lotto NZ history: $50 million must be won on Saturday
Wednesday, 12 August 2020
Lotto’s $43 million jackpot wasn’t struck on Wednesday night, with the multi-million dollar prize rolling over. Saturday’s draw will be a $50m ‘must be won’ prize.
“If the jackpot is won by a single player on Saturday, they’ll be taking home the largest prize ever won in Lotto NZ’s history,” says Marie Winfield, head of communications and corporate social responsibility at Lotto.
The winning numbers for Wednesday’s draw were 16, 10, 25, 32, 29, 34, the bonus ball was 40 and the Powerball was 4.
Although the Powerball wasn’t struck, one player became a millionaire tonight. Lotto’s First division paid out $1 million. Strike also paid out $400,000 to one player.
There were no division one winners for the Powerball, but four lucky ticket holders took home a total of $29,230 in division two. The winning tickets were sold at New World Te Rapa, Waipawa Four Square, Ashburton New World and online through MyLotto.

Some customers had issues buying tickets online before sales closed at 7.30pm.
A notice on the website ahead of the closure explained that the high jackpot was expected to draw a considerable amount of web visitors, more than usual.
Earlier in the week, Lotto warned customers not to leave ticket purchases to the last minute.
“When too many people are on the site at once it can slow down, which we know isn’t great for customers,” said Winfield.
Customers have previously complained about glitches that took their money but didn’t issue tickets.
