Four injured after crash north of Napier

Two people have been critically injured in a serious crash north of Napier.
Police said on Sunday they were attending the crash on the Napier-Taupō Rd (State Highway 5), at the intersection with Mcvicar Rd, near the small settlement of Te Haroto.
The single-vehicle crash, which was caused by a car going into a tree, happened shortly after 4pm, police said.
A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said four people had suffered injuries as a result of the crash.

Two patients were in a critical condition, one was in a serious condition and one was in a moderate condition.
One of the critically-injured people was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital via helicopter, and the other was taken to the hospital via road. The seriously-injured person was also taken to hospital.
The moderately-injured person did not need to be transported, and was treated at the scene.
Police also referenced a fifth person as being in the car, who was said to be not significantly injured.
Two helicopters, three ambulances and one rapid response unit were sent to the scene.
Traffic management would remain in place near the scene while emergency services were on site, police said.
The Serious Crash Unit had been notified.
