Child dies from injuries suffered in Napier-Taupo Rd crash on weekend

A child has died following the crash on the Napier-Taupō Rd (State Highway 5) on Sunday.
Five people were injured in the single vehicle crash near the settlement of Te Hāroto in Hawke's Bay.
One child was initially taken to hospital however died on Tuesday.
Another child remains in a serious condition at Starship Hospital, a teen injured has been discharged from hospital, while a woman in her 30s and a man in his 50s are both stable.
Police asked witnesses to come forward if they had any knowledge or assisted after the Nissan Juke, which was heading from Taupō towards Napier, crashed at the intersection of Mcvicar road.

This is the eighth death to occur on SH5 since December last year.
Maja Eve Sanders, 20, and Joshua Tom Van Hooijdonk, 19, both from Hastings died after a two-vehicle crash in Te Pohue on May 16.
On March 6, Aniwaniwa Kenrick, 21, of Hastings died in a collision between Kawaro Roadway and Turangakumu Rd at Te Hāroto.
New Zealand Transport Agency regional transport systems manager Oliver Postings said it had made significant investment in Hawke's Bay's state highway network, including the $36 million safety improvement programme for SH2 and over $20 million for other safety improvements throughout Hawke’s Bay, which included work on SH5.
While there are no current plans for capital works on SH5, Postings said NZTA continued to explore possible options to improve the highway.
