Man dies in workplace incident at construction site in central Auckland suburb

A man has died in a workplace incident at a construction site in the Auckland suburb of Newmarket.

Emergency services are at the scene on Carlton Gore Rd, where the man was injured and died at the scene.

A police spokesman said police were notified of the incident shortly before 1pm.

An investigation into the death has begun and a police spokesman said WorkSafe had been notified.

A WorkSafe spokeswoman confirmed the health and safety regulator had been notified of the incident and were making initial enquiries to figure out the next steps.

From January 2021 to June 2021, 28 people across Aotearoa have died in workplace accidents, according to data from WorkSafe.

From July 2020 to June 2021, 55 people died. This was significantly down from the year prior, where 100 people died in workplace accidents.
