A heavy gang presence descended on South Auckland on Monday afternoon as mourners gathered for the funeral of the Ponsonby Rd shooter.
Police say Hone Kay-Selwyn fatally shot Robert Horne late last Sunday night.
Kay-Selwyn was later found dead at a rural address in the Broadlands region of Taupō.
Police made four arrests at the funeral of Ponsonby Rd shooter Hone Kay-Selwyn on Monday afternoon as Killer Beez gang members gathered in South Auckland.
Police had been monitoring movements and proceedings surrounding the funeral of Kay-Selwyn since last Thursday, which involved observing numerous gang members moving through different parts of Auckland.
Police allege Hone Kay-Selwyn opened fire on Auckland’s Ponsonby Rd last Sunday night, killing 33-year-old Robert Horne.
After a nationwide manhunt, 31-year-old Kay-Selwyn was found dead at a rural property near Taupō, in circumstances police have since described as “not suspicious”.
Kay-Selwyn had been a member of the Killer Beez gang since he was 14, and a gang convoy followed his body from Taupō to Auckland late last week.
There was a large police presence at Manukau Memorial Gardens and a checkpoint established. Although there were four arrests, none were related to the funeral.
“Today, police monitored funeral proceedings between the Ōtara and Manukau Memorial Garden areas,” Inspector Rakana Cook said.
“This included a significant police presence on the grounds at the cemetery, with some support from the Police Air Support Unit.
At 2.30pm, a heavy police presence could be seen at the Manukau Memorial Gardens, with police officers stopping and checking a number of cars as they exit.
Some mourners could be seen wearing white hooded jackets with the wording ‘Fly high King Hone’ written on them, while others did burnouts on their motorbikes.
However, police did not regard this as being below their expectations of an acceptable standard of behaviour.
“There are no significant issues to report this afternoon and those gathered have dispersed,” Inspector Cook said.
“Four arrests were made for judicial matters, with four motorcycles impounded for prior driving-related offending.
Police ask anyone who witnessed concerning behaviour to report this to police by calling 105 or making a report online.
