Alec Baldwin and his brother Stephen were involved in a crash in New York

Alec, taking to social media to explain the incident, said that a garbage truck “the size of a whale” cut him off while he was driving his wife, Hilaria Baldwin’s, car.

“It was the biggest garbage truck I’ve ever seen,” he said in a video shared on his Instagram page.

“To avoid hitting him, I hit a big fat tree and crushed my wife’s car. I crushed my wife’s car — I feel bad about that.”

“That’s all fine, and I’m fine, and my brother’s fine. My wife’s car is pretty smashed up. Big tree, big fat tree,” Alec said.

The actor was quick to thank the responding authorities, including an “Officer Gerken” with the East Hampton PD.

“As nice as can be, as pleasant as can be about the whole thing,” Baldwin said, referring to the officer.

A representative for Stephen told Fox News, “Stephen is doing fine and is grateful no one was injured. He appreciates the concern and he can confirm that he and Alec are both safe and well.”

It has been a rough few years for Baldwin.

In 2021, he was acquitted of manslaughter over the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust.

The judge dismissed the case with prejudice based on the misconduct of police and prosecutors over the withholding of evidence from the defence.

After his acquittal, Baldwin cried, hugged his two lawyers, gestured to the front of the court, then turned to hug his crying wife, holding the embrace for 12 seconds.

If he had been convicted, Baldwin could have been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Earlier this year, Alec and Hilaria were involved in an awkward exchange during a red carpet interview, in which Hilaria threatened to walk out.
