Police find second body in as many days in Mount Aspiring National Park

A second body has been recovered from the Makarora River in Mount Aspiring National Park.

Police said about 12.30pm on Saturday a body was discovered in the central Otago river by a member of the public, who notified police.

The body was in the same area that another body was found on Friday about 5.15pm.

Police believe the two people may have been tramping together.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances of their deaths, but neither is being treated as suspicious at this stage.

Formal identification of both bodies is under way.
