Watch: Sachie’s Kitchen showcases the unique way to cook a fish in Rotorua

Have you ever tried cooking a trout in the thermal waters at Lake Tarawera?

That’s exactly what top chef Sachie Nomura gets up to in Rotorua in the latest episode of travel and cooking show Sachie’s Kitchen, which you can watch above.

The Japanese-born Kiwi-raised personality runs Sachie’s Kitchen cooking school in Auckland, and is on a culinary tour around New Zealand, inspired by local produce from the regions.

Each Tuesday, a new episode of her foodie road trip series will be released here on Stuff Travel.

In this episode, Nomura visits Rotorua.

Starting with a boat trip out on Lake Tarawera, Nomura meets up with Ngahi Bidois to catch a trout, before taking it to the geothermal Hot Water Beach to cook in the water in a ziplock bag, using mānuka, lemon, salt and pepper for seasoning.

She then meets Shaun and Alia, the couple behind Black Label Barbecue, learning the secrets of their succulent and juicy barbecued meats, such as reverse searing a giant t-bone steak with black rub with homemade chimichurri.

Finally, it’s off to Kaya Sparke’s food truck to discover the secrets of her vegan burgers and sweet bites at FTP Vegan Eats, as the pair work together to create iced doughnuts for the show.
