A new poll shows support for the National Party is still sitting in the high 20s, while Labour retains the highest backing of all the parties.

The Post understands the latest Talbot Mills Research poll had National on 29% and Labour on 36%, the same results the two major parties got in this poll a month prior.

Talbot Mills is the pollster for the Labour Party, but this poll was produced for its corporate clients.

New Zealand First had dropped one point to 14%, having surged four points the month prior.

The ACT Party dropped one point to 7%, the Green Party was up two points to 9% and Te Pāti Māori was still on 2%.

On preferred prime minister polling Chris Hipkins had the highest ranking on 23%, and Christopher Luxon was on 20% - both figures unchanged from April’s poll.

NZ First leader Winston Peters has been able to continue gain momentum, now two points up on 17% ‒ just three shy of the prime minister.
