Additional space to grow, especially for people to live in Hamilton, is one of the concerns faced by the city as it continues to out-pace the rest of the country in terms of population growth.

One such growth area is in Peacocke, to the south of Hamilton City, where a major 1500 home, staged subdivision is well underway.

On Sunday, LJ Hooker real estate agent Karl Finn was part of an open day for prospective buyers at the Aurora subdivision on Ohaupo Rd.

He said the people who did show up were genuine house buyers and generated a couple of leads each.

LJ Hooker real estate agent Karl Finn said the staged Aurora subdivision development would see around 1500 new homes built in the suburb of Peacocke.

“In the current stage we have around 12 sites left, but in future stages there will be hundreds.

“We want to make sure its staged in such a way as to not flood the market and keep standards high.”

Looking for a home in Hamilton were Filipino immigrants, the Manozo family.

Brothers Ray and John are looking to buy a new home together and were on-site scoping out potential plots.

“The houses there are really good, and the developers gave us a lot of information,” Ray Manozo said.

“It’s quite high class for me after growing up in a little village - if I could afford a house there it would be a gift.”

He said they needed a larger house with four to five bedrooms so there were not a lot of options for under a million dollars.

Local construction companies, including Jennian Homes, Summit Homes and Urban Homes, are selling home and land packages at Aurora.

According to its marketing material, Aurora is focussed on retaining the area’s natural features.

“The vision for this emerging community is to become a high-quality, vibrant, mixed-housing development that residents will love to call home.”

The subdivision includes its own shopping centre and community hub, and is close to the city centre, hospital and a range of established schools.
