Is this the world's worst driver?

Wednesday, 30 October 2019

Here is a classic that is always worth revisiting. If you have the patience, that is.

This video from 2014 claims to show 'Calgary's worst driver' and it is hard to argue with that statement.

It shows a BMW SUV driver's attempt to do the easiest part of any parking manouevre - that is; leave - and make a spectacularly bad job of it, starting with a slow and dithering reverse that ends when it nudges the Mazda behind it.

You can already see it
You can already see it's going to go wrong and it has hardly started yet.

This is only the beginning of the awful display of leaving, which is so bad that it is painfully aggravating for even the worst drivers to watch - seriously, if you can watch this video without yelling instructions at your screen before the 1 minute mark, then you are infinitely more patient than us…

How on earth did you get over there?
How on earth did you get over there?

* Motorcycle near miss with an unexpected outcome

* AMG driver's attempt to show off goes catastrophically wrong

* This parking fail is relentlessly frustrating to watch

* Friendly dog causes traffic chaos**

It's made even worse 30 seconds later when the Kia sedan next to the BMW effortlessly reverses out and leaves, because by this time the BMW driver has got themselves into an even worse (and far more embarrassing) state.

But it still doesn't end, as the BMW driver flails around pathetically for a further full minute before a Dodge people mover pulls in and the driver hops out - clearly notices, but decides he is better off not acknowledging the pathetic demonstration off to his right - and walks into a nearby building.

Once inside, he is obviously pressured to go back out and offer help, but is still fairly obviously unwilling to do so.

His few sparse and unwilling hand gestures do little to help anyway, as the BMW driver has finally completed their dismal, flailing 20 point turn between the Mazda3 sedan and the Acura MDX SUV and wandered out of the car park.

Sorry for subjecting you to that…
