The Treaty and Me: Making the best of a flawed process

Sharon Hawke for Stuff’s series of oral essays ‘The Treaty and Me’.

Sharon Hawke is the daughter of Bastion Point protester Joe Hawke and administrator of the Ngati Whatua Orakei Trust.

In a video essay for Stuff's Treaty and Me series, Hawke says the Treaty process has been 'pretty much flawed', but Ngati Whatua Orakei believes it has the basis for a better future. 

'We have proven to our children and our grandchildren that we have done the best that we could possibly do with what the Crown could offer.'
