Four people have been given medical treatment following a large house fire in West Auckland's Henderson.

Fire and Emergency NZ shift manager Craig Dally said crews were called to the scene on Brookwood Drive just after 6am on Thursday morning.

The residential property was 'well alight' on arrival.

Five fire trucks were sent to the scene.

At 7.30am, firefighters continued to dampen down the house as smoke rose from inside the property.

A reporter at the scene said the majority of the roof had caved in with just bits on the side left standing.

A person could be seen receiving treatment in a St John ambulance.

St John spokeswoman Beverley Tse said one ambulance and a rapid response unit were sent to the scene at 6.14am.

Four people were treated at the scene. One person was in a moderate condition while the other three had minor injuries.

No roads were closed as a result of the fire but one lane was operated under stop/go management for some time.
