Person critically injured in three-car crash near Christchurch

One person has been critically injured and two more seriously injured after a three-car crash in Christchurch.

Police were alerted to the crash, at the intersection of Birchs Rd and Robinsons Rd in Prebbleton, about 3.40pm on Tuesday.

St John spokesman Gerard Campbell said one person had critical injuries while two more had serious injuries. All three were taken to Christchurch Hospital.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Brent Dunn said three fire crews attended.

Firefighters helped remove two people trapped in two of the vehicles.

A police spokeswoman said the intersection was expected to be closed for some time and traffic management was in place.
