Future of Newshub’s website and app revealed

Friday, 14 June 2024

Stuff owner and publisher Sinead Boucher and Head of WBD NZ Glen Kyne have outlined an agreement to continue a nightly news broadcast on Three.

As of July 6, 2024, the Newshub television bulletin on ThreeNow and TV channel Three will be replaced by a Stuff-produced bulletin ThreeNews. This is part of a deal struck by Stuff and Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) following WBD’s decision to close its news operations, including Newshub.

These changes will also impact the Newshub.co.nz website and app. Here’s an outline of what’s happening so you know where to find your favourite news experiences and updates, and never miss an important story.

We’re also keen to hear your views on the future of news in NZ, so if you have 5 minutes, take the survey here and go in the draw to win a Prezzie card.

What’s happening to Newshub.co.nz and its app?

As the new bulletin launches on July 6, Newshub’s website will become a holding site for the archives of the wonderful Newshub journalists. The intention is for some of that content to be migrated over to Stuff.co.nz.

Newshub.co.nz and its associated app will no longer be updated, so your daily digital news, politics, sport and weather is here on Stuff.co.nz. If you’re a Newshub app user, you can download the Stuff apps on Apple and Android here now.

Stuff is the number one news website in Aotearoa. And it’s a great fit for the next generation of ThreeNews. When announcing the new partnership Stuff Group owner and publisher Sinead Boucher highlighted Newshub and Three’s incredible 35 years of gutsy, independent journalism - values that Stuff shares and is proud to continue to uphold.

Alongside stories, additional content and videos from the ThreeNews bulletin, Stuff.co.nz has breaking and in-depth New Zealand, politics, sport, world and entertainment news, videos and podcasts - as well as lots of excellent features including the world-famous-in-NZ Stuff Quiz, email newsletters, commenting, and daily live news coverage.

Newshub.co.nz will eventually be redirected to Stuff.co.nz.

What about the 6pm Newshub bulletin?

From July 6, 2025, Newshub’s 6pm bulletin on ThreeNow and TV channel three will be replaced by the Stuff-produced bulletin ThreeNews for an hour on weekdays and half an hour on weekends. It will be presented by Samantha Hayes, and feature a number of your favourite Newshub journalists including Jenna Lynch, Lisette Reymer, Zane Small, Heather Keats and Laura Tupou. Alongside this team, Stuff’s large team of multimedia journalists around Aotearoa will be contributing to the bulletin.

You’ll be able to stream the bulletin on ThreeNow, watch on TV channel three, and then join that chat and catch up on videos, stories and related content at stuff.co.nz/threenews.

Samantha Hayes will present the ThreeNews 6pm bulletin on weekdays.
