Dog survives being hit by car and wedged in grill for long ride

Friday, 1 November 2019

You really do have to wonder about some people's situational awareness.

A woman in upstate New York hit a dog and then managed to drive for a further 45 minutes with it wedged between the broken bumper and the grille before realising she was carrying an unwilling injured passenger.

While she stopped after the impact and saw her car was damaged, she apparently didn't notice the dog, said Rotterdam Police spokesperson Jeffery Collins.

After she finally noticed, a police officer freed the young Shiba Inu - called Coco - which was, surprisingly, not badly injured at all. And, by the way, is also absolutely adorable.

Coco was taken to a local vet who didn't expect good things.

'I really thought she would have been either already deceased when we got her or would have to be put to sleep,' said Noella Lafreniere from the Hernas Veterinary Clinic.

But it turned out that Coco was a very lucky girl indeed and only had a fractured elbow. She is apparently recovering quickly and doing very well.

And, yes, she does look like a fox.
